Typically, networks for car park organisations are complex. The aggregation of numerous, small sites over time can evolve into a diverse collection of different networks from different vendors. Locations can limit access to fibre, restricting adoption of new technology. This is the type of unpredictable environment that the big network carriers find difficult to manage.
NCP manages over 700 sites in the UK. A merger with the Japanese company, Park24, has added a further 19,000 sites across 8 countries. NCP’s UK network comprised a legacy 50Mb connection serving sites with a mix of ADSL, ISDN and FTTC lines, all requiring security improvements. Management was hindered by poor technical support from multiple providers and a disorganised array of cross connections at the data centre.
A significant reduction in revenues, resulting from the pandemic, placed pressure on NCP to reduce costs whilst simplifying network resources and management.
